Nexus has successfully managed over fifty product and ASIC designs. We have extensive knowledge of the electronics industry and are ideally placed to handle every stage in the design of your device or product. For board level products, we are able to select semiconductors and other components for best availability, price and product longevity. For ASIC development, we have close ties with semiconductor manufacturers and a thorough understanding of the development/manufacturing cycle.
PRODUCT DESIGN FOR MANUFACTURE
Although our designs often involve leading-edge technology, we never forget that the end product must be easy to manufacture. We have close ties with both industrial designers and equipment manufacturers; we can provide feasibility reports recommending strategies for the design and manufacture of your product, comparing product costs versus development costs for different design methods and volumes of manufacture.
OPERATING SYSTEMS & DEVICE DRIVER DEVELOPMENT
Our software expertise includes the design, implementation and porting of operating systems and device drivers. We have particular experience of porting Linux to both ARM and PC based embedded products. We have developed our own lightweight OS, coniX, which includes a TCP-IP stack and is targeted at low cost network appliances. coniX is currently deployed in our set-top box and industrial controller designs.
ASIC & FPGA
Verilog is our language of choice for the implementation of complex digital designs, as this eases migration from FPGA to ASIC. We have experience using Verisity's Specman tools as well as Verilog and c for verification and test bench environments. More often than not our ASIC design work includes one or more on-chip processors, frequently ARM cores. Follow this link for some examples of ARM-based products and ASICs.
As well as a wealth of high-speed digital design expertise, we have particular knowledge of the requirements and problems related to the delivery of streaming audio and video data over limited-bandwidth networks. We have designed and organised the manufacture of media servers and set-top boxes for interactive TV deployments; we have also been responsible for the integration of systems employing both DSL and cable modems. We have an excellent working knowledge of the MPEG 1, 2 and 4 specifications.
LOW POWER
DESIGN TECHNIQUES
Minimal power consumption is of paramount importance for today's portable devices. We have used our knowledge of low-power design techniques during the development of ASIC, FPGA and board level products.
